Business Understanding

You may have some experience of travelling to and from the airport. Have you ever used Uber or any other cab service for this travel? Did you at any time face the problem of cancellation by the driver or non-availability of cars? Well, if these are the problems faced by customers, these very issues also impact the business of Uber. If drivers cancel the request of riders or if cars are unavailable, Uber loses out on its revenue.

As an analyst, you decide to address the problem Uber is facing driver cancellation and non-availability of cars leading to loss of potential revenue.

Business Objectives

The aim of analysis is to identify the root cause of the problem (i.e. cancellation and non-availability of cars) and recommend ways to improve the situation. As a result of your analysis, you should be able to present to the client the root cause(s) and possible hypotheses of the problem(s) and recommend ways to improve them.

Hypothesis of Problem

Pickup Point: City

As per the Uber data analysis morning time slot where the most number of requested cab is going to cancelled by the driver. Reason might be behind that due to morning rush in office time, driver getting lots of cab request within the city and they didn’t want to go the as long journey to the airport, the driver would think more to the shortest trip within the city and try to earn more in the morning pickup time of rush.

Pickup Point — Airport :

As per the Uber analysis, the evening time slot where the requests being No Cars Available at the airport, the reason behind that not enough car available to service as cars might not be in the airport area due they are in the city and some of the drivers might have gone to home because its the night time and they didn't drive at the night time.

Conclusions :

Based on the Uber data analysis performed, following recommendation can be used by Uber to bridge the gap between supply and demand: -

From Airport to city:-

An Uber stand can be created at Airport where Cabs will available all the time, this will itself lower down the No Cars Available status.

From City to Airport:-

  1. Uber can give some small reward or something to the drives in the morning. This might attract drivers to go for Airport, this step can be helpful in reducing the number of cancellation during morning time for Airport.
  2. Penalty for driver cancelling Airport booking thrice a day, it will reduce the cancellation of rides from city to airport in the morning time.

3.There is definitely need of more cars for filling the Gap.
